The Vairocana garden is an oasis, a true sanctuary. Named for the Buddha Vairocana, the illuminator of wisdom, this refuge is located at the highest point of the Odiyan land. At the center of the mandala the garden is filled with the music of birds, fragrance of flowers, trees, and shrubs, inspiring to the senses..
At the garden’s heart, the sounding of the large Vajra Bell cuts through the jumble of perceptions and concepts. Hearing the primordial voice of the Dharma encourages us to respond in new ways.
Also enshrined in the Vairocana garden is a Parinirvana Buddha, a colossal reclining Buddha. This 2007 gift to the Odiyan mandala reminds us that the precious human body will not last forever.
