Odiyan Retreat Center is a spiritual and ecological sanctuary high on a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Northern California. Modeled after Tibet’s first monastery – a three-dimensional mandala – Odiyan models a way of life that integrates work with a path of self-exploration.

Sculpture, Foundry and Metalwork
Help sculpt, cast and assemble a 28 ft. tall, three-dimensional figure in bronze. Our onsite ‘Karma Factory’ foundry has been operational for more than 15 years and our experienced crew has cast hundreds of statues, preserving Tibetan sacred art. The sculpting of an image of Padmasambhava, also known in Tibet as the second Buddha, is already underway.
Prayer Wheels for World Peace
Join our team complete a massive prayer wheel installation surrounding Odiyan’s central temple and reflecting pond. Prayer wheels are constructed in many Buddhist communities to generate and release positive energy. Our founder, Tarthang Tulku, designed this project to reverse the negative momentum of our world, restore balance in nature and heal the pain of so many beings who are victims of war, hatred and natural disasters.
Gardening and Landscaping
Odiyan is home to extensive decorative gardens, vegetable gardens and fruit trees. Volunteers are needed year-round to care for the plants and the landscape in a gorgeous, inspirational setting. The vegetable gardens provide an important supplement to our healthy, vegetarian diet.
